Meet Nelson Sam, Senior Physio at Norwest
My fascination with the human body and movement started from a young age after being involved in a variety of sports including soccer, rugby league, Oztag and athletics.
This helped fuel my determination in completing a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science and a Masters in Physiotherapy. It complemented my passion of learning more about the capabilities of the human body as well as helping people achieve their goals.
Having worked in both the hospital and private practice setting, I’ve had a wide range of experience in working with people across the lifespan. My mission will be to work with you to make sense of your problem, collaboratively come up with a plan and help you reach your goals.
Outside of the clinic, I enjoy trying Instagram-worthy food, lifting some iron and still play soccer at a local comp level. There’s no better time to be alive as a Liverpool FC fan so I welcome any football banter at Balance Health and Performance – I can’t wait to make a difference!

“Making a difference to me means being a helpful catalyst for change. Whether that's helping them get back to doing something that they love like playing sport, being able to play with their family or just being able to perform everyday activities. “
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO PEOPLE’S LIVES?
Making a difference to me means being a helpful catalyst for change. Whether that's helping them get back to doing something that they love like playing sport, being able to play with their family or just being able to perform everyday activities. Sometimes that could mean listening and understanding someone’s story while encouraging them to make positive changes in their life. When it comes down to it, making a difference means to have a positive impact.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GET INTO PHYSIOTHERAPY?
From an early age, I was always involved in sports and was fascinated by the capabilities of what the human body could achieve. As I learnt more and more about human movement and what sort of an impact being injured could have, I just knew that being a physiotherapist was for me because it would help complement my passion of helping others achieve their goals.
WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED?
Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better
WHAT IS YOUR PROMISE TO PATIENTS?
My personal patient promise is to do my utmost best in the time that we have. This means getting to know you as a person first and foremost so that we can work together to help make sense of your problem, collaboratively make a plan and help you reach your goals.
WHAT TYPES OF PATIENTS DO YOU ENJOY WORKING WITH THE MOST AND WHY?
I love working with people who are passionate about their health and fitness. I understand how important exercise can be, both from a physical and mental aspect, and I also understand what it’s like to be injured and feeling a little helpless. That’s why I love being able to help these type of patients get back to what they enjoy doing.
SHOUTOUT ONE PERSON THAT HAS INSPIRED YOU AND WHY?
Bending the rules here but have to say my parents. Ever since I can remember, they’ve both worked incredibly hard and shown me the value of putting in the effort – it’s probably where I get my work ethic and giving 100% in everything I do.
IF THEY MADE A MOVIE ABOUT YOU, WHO WOULD YOU WANT TO PLAY YOU?
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson
WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU HAVE ACHIEVED THAT, IF YOU COULD TIME TRAVEL, YOU WOULD WANT TO TELL YOUR 10 YEAR OLD SELF?
I’d be excited and proud to tell him that he’s picked a career that he’s truly passionate about, and to top that off, he’s found an incredible family at Balance Health and Performance that’s so supportive and fun he’ll genuinely enjoy coming in to help make a difference everyday.
